[Real-Life Chinese] 失声 - Losing My Voice - Douyin Script

Imagine your close friend calling you and sounding completely different. Her voice is gone because of a cold. She starts telling you about how she caught it from her son, how she can’t speak properly, and how it feels miserable. In today’s lesson, you’ll listen as if you were hearing your friend complain, while at the same time practicing vocabulary and grammar from the Chinese script.

Let’s explore the video script together 👇

📽️ The Script: 失声 - Losing My Voice

Script with Pinyin and Translation

这两天我儿子感冒了给我传染了。
Zhè liǎng tiān wǒ érzi gǎnmào le gěi wǒ chuánrǎn le.
These past two days, my son caught a cold and passed it on to me.

我竟然失声了。
Wǒ jìngrán shīshēng le.
I actually lost my voice!

我上网一捜,发现是2025年的新型病毒,就好多人都在失声。
Wǒ shàngwǎng yī sōu, fāxiàn shì 2025 nián de xīnxíng bìngdú, jiù hǎoduō rén dōu zài shīshēng.

有失声四五天的。有失声10天的。
Yǒu shīshēng sì wǔ tiān de. Yǒu shīshēng shí tiān de.
Some people lose their voice for 4–5 days. Some for 10 days.

我这才第二天。也并不知道得多久,得持续多久。
Wǒ zhè cái dì èr tiān. Yě bìng bù zhīdào děi duōjiǔ, děi chíxù duōjiǔ.
It’s only my second day. I really don’t know how long this will last.

这两天就被逼的変相的変温柔了。
Zhè liǎng tiān jiù bèi bī de biànxiàng de biàn wēnróu le.
These two days, I was forced to “pretend” to be extra gentle.

你说话也说不出来呀。
Nǐ shuōhuà yě shuō bù chūlái ya.
You can’t even get the words out when you try to speak.

这病毒太厉害了。
Zhè bìngdú tài lìhài le.
This virus is too strong.

是嫌我24年这一年讲话太多了。
Shì xián wǒ èrshísì nián zhè yī nián jiǎnghuà tài duō le.
Maybe it “dislikes” that I talked too much in 2024.

让我得这毒株让我25年少说话多做事是吧?
Ràng wǒ dé zhè dúzhū ràng wǒ èrshíwǔ nián shǎo shuōhuà duō zuòshì shì ba?
It makes me catch this strain so that in 2025 I’ll talk less and do more, right?

谁能救救我呀。
Shéi néng jiùjiu wǒ ya.
Who can save me?

这嗓子太难受了。真的太难受了。
Zhè sǎngzi tài nánshòu le. Zhēn de tài nánshòu le.
My throat feels so uncomfortable. Really unbearable.

🎯 Takeaway

Everyday life situations (like catching a cold) provide natural, emotional contexts for practicing listening and vocabulary.

Vocabulary such as 感冒, 传染, and 失声 are directly tied to health and daily communication.

Grammar structures like 被, 并, and 让 add nuance to expressing causation, emphasis, and passivity.

Using verb + 一 + verb (like 上网一捜) is a useful pattern for sounding natural.
